Hyperpigmentation

I treat a lot of clients with this condition including myself and my children. If you have any bit of melanin in your skin you are susceptible to hyperpigmentation. Brown skin especially will see darker spots develop on their skin after a break out or some sort of cut to the skin.

Hyperpigmentation is a condition that happens when the skin is damaged in some way resulting in an over production of melanin. HYPOpigmentation is when the trauma results in no melanin production at all, so your left with a white spot.

Many things can cause this condition such as:

Cuts

Laser Treatments

Surgery

Hair Removal

Sun Damage/Burn

Keloids

Acne

Inflammation

The way we treat this condition in the office is by using deeper exfoliating treatments and bleaching serums to lighten the area. Sunscreen is a must to keep the area from getting darker.

Here are a few products/treatments we use at Puresthetics.

Vivant’s Bleaching Serum uses Kojic Acid, Hydroquinone and Vitamin A to exfoliate and lighten/even skin tone.

Mandelic Acid is an excellent (One of my personal favorites) Alpha Hydroxy Acid that aids in speeding up the natural exfoliation process. The result is a slight peeling, sloughing off dead (darker) skin cells. This is also a fabulous cleanser for acne and inflammation, reduces it almost completely!

We also utilize our Diamond Microdermabrasion System and Chemical Peels to achieve a deep exfoliation of the dead layer on the surface of the skin. After this procedure, bleaching serums and products are better able to penetrate deeper into the skin giving better results.
