How to Set Goals for the New Year : 5 Quick and Simple Steps to Achieve it
We did it again, we’re finally at the end of the calendar year and if you’re anything like me, it is a time to be grateful, the wins and the losses have taught us what not to do and what to do better. The year may not have been easy for all of us, but we did it and we are looking forward to a better 2022. If anything, 2020 has taught us to go deeper within and trust our own intuition and guidance.
The New Year is also a time to start fresh. If there’s any area in your life that you’d like to improve, set clear intentions and attainable goals to help you get there. I know that it’s easier said than done, but without setting goals, we’re not able to gauge where we are at vs where we want to be. Success comes from small moves closer and closer each day, there is no elevator, we have to take the stairs.
Don’t Rush It
Work on your goals one at a time. It’s important that you take it slow and not take on too many at once. One of the main reasons why most people fail when it comes to their New Year’s goals is because they fail to plan a realistic path or strategize.
It’s not enough to list down your goals. It’s also important to write down how you can achieve those goals.
Follow Through With a Plan
Again, it’s not enough to set goals, now you need to plan your strategy on how to get from point A to B. It’s easy to say, “I want to lose 50 pounds.” or “I want to learn how to play the piano”, or maybe “ I want to have healthier, clearer complexion.” Remember that these goals take time and effort. Starting something is tough, so you should give yourself plenty of grace, space and patience. Remember that most people give up. But you’re not most people, are you?
You’re different because you are going to create a clear and realistic plan to reach your goal successfully. If you’re going to lose 50lbs, define how you are going to lose those pounds. Are you going to start an exercise routine? Are you going to count calories? You have to define the steps that you need to do to be able to reach that goal.
Or maybe you want to have a healthier and clearer skin, are you going to start or change your skin care routine? Are you going to check in with a skin care professional regularly? Beautiful skin takes work and consistency just like anything else. We have to take care of our skin day and night. Sunscreen is not negotiable, it is mandatory in order to fade pigmentation and keep skin even and clear.
Even if you start slacking, it’s easy for you to get back into your routine because you are dedicated to doing things differently this time.
Keep It Real
You have to stay realistic when it comes to setting your New Year’s goals. The holidays are a joyful time and oftentimes you will feel motivated to achieve something big. You CAN achieve something big, but there are only 24 hours in a day.
Avoid making goals that may take a year to complete. If you want to make long-term goals, break it down into parts and give yourself a realistic plan for your first goals.
Visualize the Outcome
When you hit some snags along the road, as we all are from time to time, it will help a lot to visualize yourself reaching the end goal. As most Law of Attraction practitioners would say, live as if it is already happening.
Visualizing it makes it feel real and it motivates you to continue to work hard to make it happen. I’m a huge fan of vision boards, they’re pretty magical!
Have the Right Attitude
If you have the right attitude, you can go far. And the right attitude is to believe in yourself. If you don’t believe that you can accomplish anything, then you simply won’t. How can you expect to achieve great things if you don’t believe in yourself?
Having an optimistic attitude is critical to your success. Think about how you felt when you first set your New Year’s goals. Chances are that you had an excellent attitude, so try to maintain that mindset throughout your journey to success with your goal.
Once you’ve determined a realistic goal and divided it up into short, achievable tasks, you are bound for success as long as you take action to complete each step.
The world may seem crazy but I’m excited for this new year, staying healthy in mind, body and soul. Keep your mental health top priority at all times. Clear your space of all negative vibes and only respond to love.
Sending you peace and joy during this season. Be blessed
